Why Teaching?

Do you even have to ask that question after looking at this photo? Who would not want to spent a month of the summer on the other side of the world having the experience of a lifetime with 25 incredible young people and call it WORK.

I have the best job in the world, and I wish more people realized how amazing it is to be a teacher, because the world needs more teachers. There are challenges, yes, but every job has its challenges; the upside of this one outweighs the challenges a million to one.

My favorite part of being a teacher is the moments when students realize they can BE exactly who they are and that is enough. Over the last few weeks, a few of my friends have come to share their stories with my class. It is amazing to see their face change when they realize there are people out there in the world who have built a successful career by caring about people and our planet in addition to profit!

As teachers, we get to encourage, inspire, challenge, impart wisdom, teach skills, and develop humans ready to take on the challenges they will face in the world. What could be better than that?

I hope that through my story more amazing young people will realize that they too can do this, and that being a teacher really does change the world.
